ACC issues call for entries for Polyurethanes "INNOVATION AWARD" nomination for the Polyurethanes 2008 Conference

Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council, has issued a call for entries for the 2008 Polyurethane "Innovation Award" nominations. This year's award program's three categories include Polyurethane Chemicals, Processing Equipment and Finished Product. Finalists will be selected and winners will be announced at the Polyurethanes 2008 Technical Conference, held September 29th - October 1st at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. "CPI recognizes the importance of the efforts and foresight of the companies and individuals whose visions and perseverance have brought new products to the marketplace," says Neeva-Gayle Candelori of CPI. "This year's award program will shine the spotlight on products and technologies in three innovative categories. Without the efforts of those aiding in the advancement of polyurethanes, the industry would not be sustainable in the future." Companies or individuals interested in entering the award program must submit an application no later than 5:00 p.m. EDT on July 16th, 2008. A panel of judges representing a cross section of polyurethanes experience and knowledge, and representing industry and industry associations, will evaluate all submissions and choose finalists for each category. Finalist entries will be on display at the Polyurethanes 2008 Technical Conference, and attendees will have a chance to cast one vote per category for the entry that they believe demonstrates the most innovative use of polyurethanes. The results will be announced on October 1, 2008, during the closing session of the conference.

EUROCOAT 2008: The Coating industry returns to France

EUROCOAT will be held in France from 30th September to 2nd October 2008, at Lyon's Eurexpo Exhibition Centre

Visitors will be able to meet:

  • the key manufacturers and distributors of raw materials,
  • manufacturers of paint production machines,
  • suppliers and manufacturers of scientific equipment for colour applications,
  • manufacturers of packing and packaging materials for paint.

The conference is organised by the French AFTPVA association under the aegis of the UATCM, the 2008 EUROCOAT Conference will revolve around the general theme of "GREEN CHEMISTRY". Its aim will be to show that the Paint, Varnish, Ink, Glue and Adhesive industries can comply with the policies of a sustainable civilisation, so as to protect humanity and its environment, and to pass on the positive effects of technological progress to future generations. This will again be an opportunity to take stock of public health legislation and gather information on new, clean technologies.

For over fifteen years, the UATCM (Union of Mediterranean Technicians' Associations), which includes Spanish, French, and Italian associations, has enabled EUROCOAT to be internationalised and held on an annual basis. More recently, Algeria, Portugal and Romania have joined the UATCM and widened the event's potential audience. EUROCOAT's peculiarity is that it is resolutely turned towards the countries of Southern Europe and that it is held alternately in Spain, Italy, and France.

The second large branch meeting of the FSK takes place in Wuerzburg

fskschaumstofftagungThere is no second branch meeting for foamed plastics and PU in this form in Germany and in Europe like the FSK trade conferences each year in November in Wuerzburg, in former times in Heidelberg. In November 2008 foamed plastics the materials PE, PP, melamine resin foams and PU semi-finished material are in the centre of this branch meeting with an accompanying exhibition during the trade conference! The foamed plastic industry gives itself this the slogan of the trade conference of this year, because „indescribable variously "are also the applications of materials in the industry. After the industry met this year because of the K fair in 2007 exceptionally in January already to the FSK trade conference for PU, the trade conference of foamed plastics takes place on the 18th and 19th November in 2008. In 2006 this conference was brought up again after an over 10 years break by the specialized group foam material processors in the FSK, which concentrates approximately on topics around manufacturing, covering, filters, densities, insulating and packing with foamed plastics. This variety also shows up in the approximately 16 contributions and lectures from all ranges. The conference is accompanied by a special exhibition with company presentations, which was established for the meetings of the FSK a long time ago for discussions and to exchange information. The conference is combined with the ceremonial act of handing over the FSK Innovation prize 2008 as well as the general meeting. Over 200 participants are expected; thus this will be the branch information platform, in which also representatives of the automobile, furniture, packing and electrical industry and other industries will participate. This year the FSK is going to offer - parallel to the plastic foam conference - on the second day another workshop with the topic ‘surfaces and lacquer finish', here experts exchanges themselves and talk about problems and innovations in surface techniques. Planned is also a workshop about ‘rail-mounted vehicle parts and requirements from standardizations and laws' on the 17th November in 2008; thus a trade meeting for various questions about applications of raw materials of foam materials and polyurethane. Processing plants and OEMs receive special conditions. Registration and information is available at the Association of Plastic Foams and Polyurethane e.V. under www.fsk-vsv.de (address registered in our FAPU PU Directory).

Plastics in Sports and Leisure

The SKZ organises this conference from 23rd to 24th September 2008 in CCW Congress Centrum Würzburg with Dr. Joachim Kuhn, International Table Tennis Federation, CH-Lausanne as the chairman.
Materials and functional textiles alongside athlete's performance are the key factors of high performance and success, and ensure comfort, convenience and safety in leisure sports. High performance materials contribute not only to the further development of equipment intensive sports; they are one of the driving forces for new records.

For athletes, coaches and in particular for the sports industry, it is important to learn about new developments and trends at an early stage, and to include these in their activities and plans. Therefore it is significant for those groups to learn about the latest results in nanotechnology, polymer research, composites, and membrane techniques.

This conference on plastics in sport and leisure is unique in Europe. It is compact-structured and offers many opportunities from a detailed and specific discussion to a multidisciplinary exchange of ideas among experts from different branches. www.skz.de.
