As glossy as ever: Glasurit featured on legendary Mercedes 280 GE

It's 1983; the Dakar Rally is underway. Jacky Ickx and co-pilot Claude Brasseur take their Mercedes 280 GE to the finishing line - and they're the winners! To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dakar Rally (which had to be called off this time, for well-known reasons), Mercedes' legendary off-road vehicle was reconstructed as a replica of the original - and Glasurit was once again the paint of choice for creating the finish. 2008_01_08_1"The whereabouts of the original vehicle is unknown, but to celebrate the Dakar Rally anniversary, Mercedes Benz commissioned us to reconstruct the robust classic car," says Jörg Sand, expressing his excitement. Sand is a journalist and PR consultant specializing in off-road
racing and has organized the reconstruction of the car. Of course, the GE looks identical to the original. It has a white finish produced with

Glasurit paints, and even the decals are the same as those that adorned the car back in 1983. The engine has been tuned, and the aerodynamic add-on parts are made of aluminium, while the lightweight components are made of GRP (fiberglass).
Sand has been drumming up publicity for the unusual Mercedes. The 280 GE replica appeared at various events in 2007 including the Rally Deutschland and the Berlin-Breslau Rally. In 2008, it will be displayed at the Bremen Classic Motorshow, the Techno Classica in Essen, and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
