 ‘PU Made Simple' short course

Smithers Rapra announces a new short course ‘Polyurethanes Made Simple' to be held this year.
The course answers the need for a basic introductory level course for newcomers to the industry and for people who have only a limited understanding or who have had very little in the way of formal technical training in Polyurethanes.
Course leader is Martyn Bentley, formerly of Huntsman Polyurethanes, now Managing Director of Cromar Solutions Ltd., Martyn is joined by Colin Tweedale, Associate Consultant with Cromar Solutions. During the 2 days they will explain the fundamentals of PU chemistry and processing technologies and provide an insight into the structure of the PU industry.
‘Polyurethanes made Simple' will take place at Smithers Rapra, Shawbury, Shropshire, UK on 1st to 2nd April 2008.

First Congress for Materials in Aviation and Aerospace

"Materials technology and the associated processes pave the way for innovations in the construction of engines and aviation and aerospace structures," explains Joachim Szodruch, member of the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Federal Minster for the Economy of Germany, Michael Glos, says that "the capacity to produce superior products from materials" is decisive for the success of enterprises in Germany. Airbus Boss Thomas Enders commented that "the targeted, cross-border concentration of scientific and industrial competence and resources in materials research is an important factor contributing to maintaining competitiveness. He went on to say that the new international specialist conference EUCOMAS (European Conference on Materials and Structures in Aerospace) offers the opportunity for "intensive dialogue on selected aspects of materials and structure technology in a group of high-level international participants". Szodruch, Glos and Enders are patrons of the first EUCOMAS, which is being organised in Berlin/Germany by VDI Wissensforum on 26 and 27 May 2008.
The Conference offers all users and suppliers a platform for networking and communication which concentrates on the specific materials issues and targets of the European aviation and aerospace industry. The Conference will cover all materials and their structural components, as well as manufacture and processing. The main focal subjects are lightweight constructions, high-temperature applications, processing technology, repair, simulation, modelling, quality control and testing technology.
The VDI Society for Materials Engineering is the initiator of the Conference and is responsible for the substantive content. The Conference is supported by the Federal Association of German Aviation and Aerospace Industry BDLI, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the German Society for Aviation and Aerospace DGLR and CEAS (Council of European Aerospace Societies).
Further information and a program are available under www.eucomas.eu.
